The Internet – How It Changes Our Lives

The internet is really a big part of every person’s life nowadays. I remember before, when I was in Junior High, internet is not a big thing. We have a very limited access and we can only get our free access thanks to the internet program of my friend he got from a prestigious university here. We were really satisfied and happy with the free 30 minutes free internet access we’re getting everyday.

Those were the days – but now, using the net for 30 minutes is like eating just 1 teaspoon of your favorite pie. Internet is now considered as a necessity.

Ten years ago, internet traffic hit its highest peak when the social media hits the cyberspace. It is the era of Friendster and MySpace. People, especially the young ones, are really into these social media websites. How can you resist these kind of websites? They offer you free sign up and you can see all your friends here, even your long lost childhood crush and your future significant other. You can even check the current pictures of your Elementary classmate and even your relatives from abroad. You can also meet new friends just by surfing these websites but sadly, these sites are talking about is so 10 years ago. People are now into Facebook and Twitter which they find more convenient and user friendly, plus, Facebook offers more gaming applications which really attracts social media junkies.

Technology is also catching up with changes on the internet. Now, the latest gadgets are copping up with the internet needs. The best example of this are the smart phones such as iPhone and Android Phones. These phones should be hooked up in the internet to maximize its full potential. You should also update its latest firmware or even download the latest apps using the internet. When it comes to gaming world, the so-called “Next Gen Console” should also connect to the internet. You can get the latest update of the games of these consoles and you can even play with other gamers around the world when you connect your console to the internet.

Internet is really different today. Before we had dial up connection but now, we already enjoying the speed of DSL, Broadband and Wi-Fi connections. Even malls, coffee shops, gasoline stations and other public establishments are now using Wi-Fi connection. Internet also made some things obsolete. We are rarely use snail mail anymore, instead we use e-mail. We rarely use telephones, instead, we chat using chat software and Facebook, we can even see who we are chatting to using video calls. Instead of reading some magazines or making a diary, people now are using and reading blog sites. Even encyclopedias and newspapers became almost obsolete nowadays because people are now checking Wikipedia and other news websites online. We also rarely watch TV or listen to the radio because we have live TV and radio streaming thanks to the internet. You can even do your shopping using some online shopping websites such as Ebay and Craigslist. Instead of using photo albums and your film camera, you can now your picture or upload it using digital cameras or camera phones.

Internet is also a big part when it comes to businesses. Advertisers and Marketing Specialists are now using internet to market their products and services. They are paying good websites to put an advertisement on. Even Google are using Adsense to market their certain products and services. Even Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page, Founder and CEO of Facebook and Google respectively, are now one of the most renowned businessman and wealthiest man in the world.

Internet is not all about pros, it also has a cons. With almost all the people around the world are using the internet, crime in cyberspace, or what the techies love to say – cybercrime, is also inevitable in the word wide web. Crimes such as theft is normal in the internet. Not just stealing money or property, but also stealing your identity. People are doing this to steal money from your credit card or just simply to stalk you. Intellectual property is also no match with the cybercrime. People are stealing some ideas they got in the internet and use it for there own good or just post it in their websites without even giving credit to the person responsible. Hackers are also using the internet to hack your account and even spread some computer viruses. Even prostitution and selling of illegal stuffs is part of the cybercrime.

Internet is not just want, its a need. People will have a hard time survive a week without an internet. Businesses will lose a lot of money without internet and our minds will be stagnant without the updated information we are getting from the internet so that’s why, it really changes our everyday living and customs so imagine the world without the internet or imagine how the internet will evolve 10-20 years from now.
