How to create an Apple ID without a credit card

Written by Tech84 on January 7, 2013

Don’t you find it annoying that companies like Apple requires you to input your credit card details for a new account even though you have no intent on actually purchasing anything from the App Store? Or you just want to download a free app and you don’t want to send your credit card details to Apple?

Back then, creating an Apple ID without a credit card was easy, you can always select “None” when the payment option comes up upon registering. Now it seems that Apple has removed the option “None” when registering a new Apple ID and requires you to enter your credit card details.

Well good news for you, Tech4idiots has found some ways on How to create an Apple ID without a credit card:

The first one requires you to be on your computer and have iTunes installed. You can download the latest version of iTunes here (the latest version as of writing is iTunes 11). And make sure to “Log Out” any account that it currently logged in. Normally in iTunes, if you go to the store and try to create a new Apple ID, the option to select “None” under payments is unavailable and you will be forced to enter your credit card details. So here’s how to bypass that:

    1. Go to the app store and look for a free app (could be any app, game or anything etc)
    2. Click on download.
    3. It will open up a prompt asking you to log in with an existing Apple ID or create a new one
    4. Here obviously we will select Create a new Apple ID
    5. Just enter the necessary details for your new ID
    6. Under billing we should have the option “NONE” available.
    7. And there you have it, your new Apple ID.

Here is the other way to Create an Apple ID without a credit card while on your iPhone/iPad/iPodTouch or iPad mini:

    1. Open the App Store on your iOS device and look for a free app (could be any app, game or anything etc)

And if all those things above still wont work for you (It seems it varies from country to country?) One thing you can do is to redeem a code, from an iTunes gift Card or for a free app. In this tutorial, we will use a code offered for free from this site: Klove. This can be done while on a Computer on iTunes or while on your iPhone/iPad/iPodTouch or iPad mini. (Note: this also works on already existing Apple ID’s)

    1. Go to this site: http://www.klove.com/music/store.aspx and click on the Download Free song on iTunes.
    2. Simply copy the code for the free song
    3. Go to the App Store and click on “Redeem”
    4. Just enter the Code from the store and then you will be prompted to either log in with an existing Apple ID or Create a new Apple ID
    5. Select Create a new Apple ID
    6. When the Billing option comes up the option “None” would be available and now you can proceed to create an Apple ID without a credit card.
    7. And there you have it, your new Apple ID.
