How to install Rogero 4.40 v1.03 on your PS3

Written by Tech84 on April 6, 2013

Update: Rogero has released a new PS3 custom firmware with Rogero 4.41 v1.00 cfw. Here’s the link for the tutorial on How to install Rogero 4.41 v1.00 on your PS3

After the public release of Rogero 4.40 v1.02 cfw, Rogero has released a new update to his popular CFW with 4.40 v1.03.

How to install Rogero 4.40 v1.03 on your PS3

Here’s how to install Rogero 4.40 v1.03 on your PS3:

Installation Files:
Download Rogero 4.40 v1.02 cfw here (Mirror Here) (another mirror here)(and another mirror here)

A USB Flash drive (Must be big enough to accommodate the installation files) or a PS3 External Hard Drive or just a plain External HD
A PS3 running Official Firmware version 3.55 or
A PS3 running on any CFW ver: 3.55/4.21/4.30/4.40
This also works for PS3’s running Rogero 4.40 V1.02 (this is an update duh)

This will NOT WORK on PS3′s running any Official Firmware higher than 3.55 (you will need to downgrade to 3.55 first.)
Also, if you come from a downgraded PS3 (you were on an official firmware 3.60 or higher and then downgraded to 3.55) you would need to Dehash your PS3 first. (no need to dehash if you are already on any of these CFW versions: 4.21/4.30/4.40)

Here are the steps:
Remove any discs inside your PS3 when performing the update.

Note: If you are installing from 3.55, remember to Toggle QA Flag first for a safer install. If you do not know how to do it, here is a tutorial on How to Toggle QA Flag.

1. Download the file “Rogero_CEX_4.40_v1.03.PUP“ and rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP
2. Create a new folder on the Root of your USB flash drive or External HD and name it “PS3” ( it would look like this: x:PS3 where X is the drive)
3. Create a new folder inside the “PS3” folder we just created and name it “UPDATE” . ( it would now look like this: x:PS3/UPDATE)
4. Copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP file we renamed and place it inside the “UPDATE” folder we just created. ( it should now go something like this: x:PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP)
5. Insert your USB or External HD into your PS3
6. Turn on your PS3, go to System update and select “Update via Storage Media”
7. Just follow any on screen instructions that would come up.
8. And you’re done!

Alternate installation via Recovery Mode:
(Note: This is assuming you already have the installation files ready on your USB flash drive or External HD , if not follow steps 1 to 5 from above before proceeding)
1. While your PS3 is on, turn it off by pressing and holding the power button until it turns off
2. When the PS3 is OFF, press and hold the power button until you hear two beeps
3. When this happens, the PS3 should boot up in recovery Mode (if it does not, repeat steps 1 and 1)
4. While on recovery mode, select option 6 (System Update)
5. Just follow any on screen instructions that would come up.
6. And you’re done!

Older versions of Multiman will not work on Rogero 4.40 V1.03, and you would need to update to the latest version of Multiman which is 4.30.00. Here’s the link on How to install Multiman 4.30.00.

Change logs with the Rogero 4.40 v1.03 update:

Rebuilt the CFW with minimal patches needed for similar OFW Stability, also adding full compatibility with multiMAN Tools.
All known issues from v1.02 are fixed now (XMB PS2 Game Saves, Sequential Video Playback, Media Server always on)
Removed Cinavia Patch used on v1.02 because of some compatibility issues (When DEX4.40 is public it will be added properly again)
Added the ToolBox to [app_home/PS3_GAME] to restore multiMAN/StealthMAN launch mode from ToolBox.
Updated the ReactPSN patch to work offline without the need to log into PSN at all (Credits to Team Rebug for their original 4.30.1 Patch)
Added both noBD/noBT patches to allow installation on consoles with broken BluRay Drive or Bluetooth board.

Credits to Rogero over at Tortuga-Cove

“This CFW was tested on most PS3 Models by different testers and no problems were encountered. But as any CFW release you must install it with caution and by following proper instructions, No one will be held responsible for any damage caused.” – Rogero

Hey everyone, I Hope this message finds you well, please I need help, firstly I was working with 3.55 and recently I’ve installed Rogero 4.30 and it works fine but, I’m facing a problem now, which is I can’t use the two port of USB, I’m using two external hard disk, after rogero 4.30 both were working great and I can launch and play games from both, but after Rogero, my multiman still capable to read both of them but I can’t play games as long as the both hard are connected, in this case I have to shutdown my ps3, and remove one of them, I do this every time I want to play any other game on the other hard and this is really start to annoying me, is there something I can do it to solve this problem

    I’m using mutliman 4.30 now
    thanks in advance

    • Tech84 says:

That’s quite an interesting problem you have there. So playing games from both ext HDs worked with 4.40 V1.02 and with 4.40 V1.03 you are only limited to using only one? I will try to do some searching I hopefully we can have an answer to this.

      • Momen says:

Sorry there was a misunderstanding I mean it was fine with 3.55 but after rogero 4.30 I became unable to playing games while both external are connected but sometimes I can play games from the old HD while some games on the new one gives me a black screen, and there is something important too, after I press x to launch a game from multiman a screen just show up saying “retesting / reconnected usb or something like that” sorry I can’t remember coz this option i found out that it can be disabled and I did disabled it. now every new game I have is on my new HD and every time I want to play I have to shut down my ps3, I’ve tried to remove one HD and connect the other one but the same problem showed up, it works only after restarting the device !!

  15. Chips says:

Anyone know if you have to Toggle QA when going from ofw 3.41 in recovery mode? Or would I have to go the 3.55 route?

  16. surfnkite says:

I have a couple of questions:

    1) Would upgrading to Rogero 4.40 v.1.03 fix my problem with not being able to play new BluRay discs?

    2) If changing from True Blue CFW to Rogero, would I lose the games currently saved on internal HDD? Would my ripped games from True Blue CFW work with new Multiman on ROgero?

    3) What is advantages of switching from True Blue to Rogero 4.31? As new games such as Tomb Raider still works on my True Blue dongle. Are you saying I don’t need the True Blue dongle anymore with Rogero 4.31?

    My current environment:

    3.55 – Version 4.11 True Blue v2.7

Also, to quickly confirm, to update to Rogero I will:

    1) Switch back to Kmeaw v.355 CFW – do I need to delete Multiman and all other pkg’s first??
    2) Do the Toggle QA (haven’t looked at the steps yet)
    3) Install Rogero 4.40 CFW.
    4) Install new Multiman version.

    Thanking you in advance! 🙂

  21. isthislegit? says:

legit? need survey? if yes wil it work

    • Nextgen says:

I can say this is legit, and i don’t think theres any surveys in the tutorial. Plus its common knowledge when a site require you to answer a survey its usually a scam. And this one is not.

  22. Nextgen says:

Thank you very much for simplifyng this tutorial, i am now on rogero 4.40, i came from 3.55 kmeaw. Other tutorials i found sound too complicatedfor me this one made it look like a walk in the park! This is like that book ” **** for dummies” lol

  23. mezz says:

    doesn’t work.

  24. bluejamas says:

now on 1.03 thanks! one question, would i be able to play online now?

  25. vertig0 says:

hi guys, i am new to playing games on jailbroken PS3, so please pardon my ignorance. i recently had jailbroken my PS3 to CFW 4.40 and tried to play a game meant for CFW 4.21. is there anyway i could play it on my console? any changes required? thanks.

  26. Danny says:

    Many thanks for this!!!

  27. ryuu says:

Hello, this is my first time trying to install rogero by myself.
So please forgive my idiocy and kindly guide me.

I have checked that my firmware is 3.55 and my rogero 3.70. though i am not sure about my multiman version, should be just as old.

So, with what i have does that mean i have to download multiman 4.30 and Rogero 4.40 v1.02 cfw and afterward install them in order to install Rogero 4.40 v1.03?

    Thank you

    • Anonymous says:

As long as you have QA Toggle installed then it is safer and you can upgrade straight to Rogero 4.40 v1.03 and multiman 4.30. I have done this to a few consoles now with 100% success everytime. I have only just started doing the jailbreak myself incuding the E3 Flasher (to 3.55 Rogero 3.70CFW) and have not had any problems yet

  28. SpiderX says:

I’ve seen a few posts, but I’m really trying to get a verification of this: I have 3.55 – TrueBlue CFW 4.11 v2.7 installed currently. Do I need to downgrade to a different version of 3.55 before installing Rogero 4.4x or do I simply remove the dongle and install Rogero 4.4x directly? And if I do this, do I need to QA it?

If I have to downgrade, do I just flash a CFW 3.55, or do I need to use any special downgraders?

    Thanks in advance!

    • SpiderX says:

Well I bit the bullet and upgraded directly from the TB cfw 2.7 to Rogero 4.4x… First I removed the single of course, checked to make sure FW was 3.55 w/o single plugged in, then flashed Rogero. Installed MM 4.40 and unlatched all of the TB patched games I have with the originals from the discs.

Having some issues withma few games but I’m sure its just some multiman configs or something. I have also noticed that I’ve had to delete game data/reinstall from disc on a few games.

Anyway its nice to be able to ditch the dongle. Now if I could only figure out reactpsn. Anyone have a solid tutorial?

  29. JJ says:

Just upgraded from 3.55 after not having turned on my PS3 for over a year. Update went very smoothly. None of my old games work, is that because they were patched for 3.55 or something? Also trying to remember how I can large games onto my internal from my external when over 4gb, remember using a “splitter”. Anyway, hope I didn’t screw something up

  30. Andrew says:

Hi, I’m on cfw 4.30 Rebug Dex. Will I be able to install this safely?

  31. KingDeph says:

worked great, lovely tutorial, would be nice if you did the updated version of 4.41 by rogero, but I guess the same steps work

  32. nel says:

I have finished jailbreaking my PS3 with this Rogero patch.
Question is how can I play games on my external hard rives?
I am thinking of downloading games from piratebay.

Do you have any steps on how to install games from jailbreak version?

  33. jubran says:

  34. Jay says:

I am a complete noob at ps3 flashing as recently converted from xbox. Please can you advise me if it is possible to flash cfw on a ps3 with a broken bd drive so that ‘back ups’ can be played directly off an external hdd or whether i need to bin my broken ps3 and think about the modding route again?

If possible, which is the best firmware to flash up from?

    Kind regards

  35. as says:

why my true blue not working after i update??

  36. roy says:

  39. matthijs says:

i had rogero 4.31 and i downgrade it to 4.21 how can i get it to 4.40 ??

  40. anarex says:

I know that this is a dum question but what is this rogero supposed to do? i mean i updated my ps3 with it but when i launch the program i get an error that ocurrs during the start period then i updated it into 4.41 and it still wont work

    • Ted says:

Rogero is a custom firmware for your PS3, it unlocks a lot of features the official firmware does not let you do. It lets you run homebrew apps and lets you play your backed up games.

  41. Oliver says:

Is there a way I can play with my True Blue patch games using Rogero?

  42. Milagros says:

When I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments

There has to be a way you are able to remove me
    from that service? Many thanks!

    • Shreyas says:

In the email you receive, there is a line at the bottom
“Want less email? Modify your Subscription Options.”

Click that link and select Unfollow. That should do.

  43. Mr D says:

Hey guys. I’m on 3.55 cfw with multiman 2.09 or so… I want to update to 4.40. From what I understand, I just need to update my multiman to mm4.30 and then update the system via the xmb to rogero 4.40 v 1.30. And wat is meant by ‘toggle qa flag’. Realli can’t afford if anything should go wrong…

    • Tech84 says:

was you ps3 been downgraded? I would suggest to toggle QA just to be sure anyway, what it does it that is resets your syscon for a fresh install. and also I would suggest to install the Rogero 4.40 v1.30 via recovery mode to be safe.

      Heres how to toggle QA:

      • Mr D says:

no it wasnt downgraded. i went straight from ofw 3.55 to cfw 3.55. can you please tell me the steps that i need to take to get into recovery mode. and thanks agen

        • Tech84 says:

This is assuming you already have the installation files ready on your USB flash drive or External HD:

  44. Mr D says:

Ok cool… I updatd to mm 4.0 and I’m about to go over to rogero… Bt I just have 1 last Question… Is ther a way of downgrading back to 3.55?

  45. Rhay Mark says:

This thing is a whole Fucking Good!!!! More Powers To you Guys,, i appreciate all the effort.

  46. CARLI says:

I want to upgrade my cfw 3.55 to cfw roger 4.xx, but i hav already install spoofer 4.11 and now i have already uninstall it. can i just upgrade it to rogero because i had uninstall the spoofer? or do i need to dehash first? thx

  47. *Secret* says:

Can I still play online in my ps3 with multiman and rogero??

  48. xanimefreak says:

Thanks very much for the steps. Every TUT here on your website are HELPFUL! You RoK Dude!!!

  49. Beatdown says:

    Can you Toggle QA to 3.55-kmeaw because i’m confused with this line;

Now we can install either an Official Firmware 3.55 ( do not install any OFW higher than 3.55!), or 3.55 Kmeaw or Rogero 3.55

I want to update to Rogero 4.40 v1.03
    please and thank you.

    • Ted says:

If you are on 3.55, you should always toggle QA first.

And about your second question, you can update to the latest rogero cfw directly from there.

      • Beatdown says:

So is it safe to toggle QA because im running on 3.55-KMEAW do I need to downgrade first to the normal 3.55 or just go for it from there.

And when I successfully installed the Rogero 4.40 will it let me play the lates games? Because right now the only games I have is Aquapazza on disc (my playstation slim 120gb doesn’t let play it because it need an update to 4.46) and super heroine chronicles[japanese] I got this game on the internet I have no clue how to add games onto my playstation but thats another story.
Right now I’m focuses on the update.
Thank you for the quick reply.

        • Beatdown says:

          Nevermind. I did it. Im at Regero 4.46 and I also did the toggle QA. I got to play my aquapazza because it needed 4.46 to run on. But now I would like to play super heroine chronicles, this game is asking for 4.50. So here is my other question;
Is it safe to update to 4.50 directly from Regero 4.46 or do I need to downgrade to 3.55 and “Then” go 4.50?
P.S. thanks for the help TED.

  50. xrambo83x says:

After updating from 4.40 to 4.55 my ps3 doesn’t turn on. I tried to to do recovery mode and all the options and nothing. When ps3 reboots gets black screen unless I go back into recovery. I am using rogero firmware. Any ideas how to fix this. I have a fat ps3. I even tried my old harddrive before I updated to bigger harddrive same issue. After trying after awhile doesn’t seem like the ps3 does anything anymore. I am thinking it corrupted the hdd
