Gamestop is reporting that the company has currently closed pre-orders for the Playstation 4 in the US after Gamestop has sold out all their allocated PS4 launch units.
Bad news for those who has not pre-ordered yet, but such high demand for the console is good news for Sony.
As you can see from the image above, Gamestop has announced on their website that the Playstation 4 is “currently sold out”, and there’s no word yet on whether this is permanent or just temporary while Gamestop tries to increase their stock and eventually re-open pre-orders for the PS4. However, interested user can still submit their email addresses to receive updates when Playstation 4 reservation will be available again.
Below is a statement from a Gamestop spokesperson to Gameinformer:
“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”
This is bad news if you are still looking forward to pre-ordering a PS3 on Gamestop because there is still no news on whether pre-orders for the PS4 will be re-opened, but on the other side of the story, this is definitely great news for Sony. Having such demand for the PS4 being higher what what Sony has already anticipated is great news for them and definitely would make Microsoft rethink their strategies for the Xbox 180… I mean Xbox One.
Something also worth mentioning: “Game Informer is owned by GameStop”
