Apple will be making the switch coming from an Android device to an iPhone a lot more easier.

Apple to start trade-ins for iPhone gift cards from Android switchers soon

Apple has recently revealed plans to give incentives to Android switchers by giving them Apple Store credit in exchange for their non-iOS device that they will bring to the Apple store.

Apple has already an iPhone Reuse and Recycling Program making it easier for users with older iPhones to trade-in in their device to get store credit in order to get a newer iPhone model. And now Apple will soon begin to accept trade-ins from non-iOS devices. Devices that will be accepted for the trade-in program will not be limited to Samsung phones but will also accept all other brands from Blackberry’s to Windows phones. No news however, if they will also accept brands from China like Xiaomi and others.

Switchers can get to as much as $175 worth of Apple store credits for a new iPhone for handsets that will meet a certain criteria that will be disclosed by Apple soon. Apple Retail Store employees will be the one to determine the values of the devices for trade-in by inspecting the cosmetic and functional conditions of the devices. This system is will most likely be similar to their current iPhone Reuse and Recycling Program.

Also, its reported that Apple employees will be able to transfer contacts and other address book information from the rival smartphones to the new iPhone, an extensive training program for retail store employees is expected to begin later this week to address this.

The only drawback with this is that Apple’s pricing is relatvely not at par with other trade-in programs, like Amazon’s own trade-in program. (But this is probably because Apple see’s non-Apple devices as inferior devices, what else?)

So far the iPhone Reuse and Recycling Program has help boost iPhone sales sales in the past, so this move will be a great way to increase sales going forward by making it easier to make the switch coming from a non-iOS device to an iPhone.

Very slick way to give people an incentive to want to switch to an iPhone. I bet many Android users have contemplated switching to an iPhone at some point, and this just makes the decision so much easier.
