Yes you read that right, Homebrew for the PS Vita is now possible.

Homebrew for the PS Vita is now possible!

Playstation developer Yifan Lu has released “Rejuvenate”, its currently in public beta for those who are into homebrew, the Vita hack can be used via Sony’s PSM Developer assistant application.

The PS Vita hack will allow users to install and run unofficial application and homebrew games on the PS Vita. But for those of you who think that you will now be able to play pirated games on your Vita, you’ll be dissapointed:

The Rejuvenate ps vita hack does NOT enable any kind of PS Vita piracy, even if Yifan Lu wished to, he cannot, due to limitations preventing piracy on the vita itself. – From Wololo

However, this is a Beta release and hacking the PS Vita is not exactly a walk in the park. There are still many limitations such as the PSM Dev App required to launch homebrews, USB connection required to launch homebrews and NO PSTV / Vita TV support.

So if you don’t have the PSM dev app on your Vita, you can ask a friend who has a publisher license or will have to wait as Yifan Lu has mentioned that there is a work around for that and he will release it soon.

As of writing, you can only run the ‘hello world’ demo as the open SDK still does not work. As the real purpose of this “open beta” release is to test and find bugs in the VitaDefiler and UVLoader tools along with the setup process.

You can join the #vitadev IRC channel on EFNet for support and if you want to join in the development conversations.

Stay tuned for more updates on the newly released PS Vita hack.
