Joystiq, one of our favorite gaming sites has shut down

Written by Tech84 on February 10, 2015

Goodbye Joystiq.

Joystiq shuts down

One of our favorite gaming sites have shut down.

Joystiq was founded in 2004 and was acquired by AOL in 2005, along with its sister site Engadget and another site called Autoblog. Joystiq has over ten years of publication under their belt and they just celebrated its ten years in publication last year, and this year, AOL has included Joystiq, TUAW, and Massively in the list of web properties to be shut down by the company in its large scale reorganization plans.

Joystiq’s official iOS app (that we absolutely liked) was pulled a few months back, maybe it was a sign of its future demise.

Although technically shutdown, you can still visit the Joystiq but no new updates will be posted there. You can read their last post titled “There is no end” where we left a comment there bidding farewell to one of our favorite gaming sites.

Joystiq is one of those sites we visit every day to get the latest in Gaming. Along with Kotaku, PSU. (We used to visit IGN a lot back then but stuff like auto-redirecting to location specific versions of IGN instead of the international version, and we started to disagree with their reviews, a lot, changed that) The site was our inspiration for having a clean look on the website, like with Engadget, we always loved the minimalist design of the website and as you can see it clearly influenced the style and design of Tech4idiots.

Note: Engadget has included a new gaming section on http://www.engadget.com/gaming/ where former Joystiq contributors Ben Gilbert and Jess Conditt would be manning the new section dedicated solely to gaming coverage.
