Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS3 today with Official firmware 4.50. The update includes new features such as auto update and easier data transfers between your PS3 and Vita.

Here are some of the features included in the 4.50 firmware update:

  • Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
  • Auto download support of purchases made on the Web Store will be made available to all PSN users.
  • New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
  • Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using wi-fi and ethernet connection.

The data transfer update for the PS3 and Vita seems to be a good addition since transferring files to a PS Vita seems to be a pain, you need to install the PlayStation Content Manager in your PC to do this. The auto download for system software updates also looks like a good update which was only available for PlayStation Plus Subscribers before the 4.50 update.

You can get the update via your PS3 or you can download it using your PC from Official PlayStation website here.

For PS3 CFW users, you might want to skip this update because in doing so will remove all the homebrew capabilities of your console and it would be harder to install cfw again. We can always wait for an updated version of 4.50 CFW when Rogero releases an update.
